Feeding America West Michigan Saturdays! (May 6, 2017)
Join us at Feeding America West Michigan for our next monthly food repackaging session May 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. Your volunteerism will help prepare food for distribution to food banks, homeless shelters and other agencies. At our April session, our group repackaged frozen meatballs. If you can’t participate in May, watch this space for our next opportunity.
Since 1981, Feeding America West Michigan has served as West Michigan’s regional nonprofit clearinghouse for saved, donated food on its way from the food industry to churches and charity agencies that assist needy people.
The food Feeding America distributes is drawn primarily from the surpluses and edible/useable errors of local and national food and grocery products companies. Through eight warehouses, the food bank serves more than 1,100 food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and other charity agencies across 40 Michigan counties (the western third of the Lower Peninsula and entire Upper Peninsula) who in turn provide that food aid to 492,100 needy families of West Michigan each year.
